Confusion b and d Help:
I recently came across a neighbour who was struggling hard to finish his home work on a, b, c, d. I saw him writing either b twice or d twice. When I asked about what he is writing, he started making cute faces. He was more than happy when I offered him help. I showed him a simple tip that he would never get confused again.
Here it is…
I had the same problem with my son his initial days of kindergarten. He used to get confused between these two alphabets. (My mom says even I had a tough time distinguishing both these letters). My son was much younger then than this little boy I was talking about. His teacher started teaching both the upper case and lower case together.
He was pretty ok with the phonics sounds, but when it came to identifying the letters b and d, he completely lost it. I had to take a different approach to solve this problem. I wrote the following letters on the whiteboard.
Taking the Confusion Out of b and d…
I said “see! ‘b’s like to walk while ‘d’s like to talk…always!”
My son seemed pretty ok with it. The rhyming of the words walk and talk caught his attention and he started putting it in practice.
In the next few days, I could see him get over that confusion. Whenever he used to come across a ‘b’ or ‘d’ he used to write the upper case letter besides that and check whether it’s a ‘b’ or‘d’. I never saw him getting confused again.
Of course, we did some crafting too with both the letters which my son had saved till now.
‘d’ dinosaur and ‘b’ bear
I have the dinosaur picture for you, but I couldn’t find the bear in his room as it is a real mess. Sorry!
As this is the most common problem faced by the kindergartners, hope this might help you.
